Abstract

Elevated plasma fibrinogen levels in cardiovascular disease such as ishaemic heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease. There is conflicting evidence about the influence of fibrinogen genotype on plasma fibrinogen levels, and the relation between genotype and cardiovascular disease has not been studied in Korea.
This study aimed to find out whether certain fibrinogen genotypes are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. 40 subjects with cadiovascular disease and 56 healthy controls matched for age, sex, and genotype were selected from a sample aged 23~67 years in Yonsei Hospital.
The result were as follows:
1.Mean fibrinogen levels were higher in patients than in controls.
2.Plasma fibrinogen levels were significantly higher in the old age (¡Ã40 years) than in the younger ages (¡Â39 years) in patients.
3.The significant associations between A1 A2, genotype and plasma fibrinogen in both group.
In conclusion, A1 A2, genotype of the ¥â fibrinogen gene are associated and increased with plasma fibrinogen levels.
